Have you ever begun to embrace the new changes within your life, whether you caused them or someone else initiated them and wonder….WHERE AM I GOING NOW?

WHERE DO I GO NOW?

The road way of LIFE seems to be filled with exasperating situations: LEAPS OF FAITH, UNEXPECTED CHOICES, meeting & making NEW FRIENDS and bidding adieu to OLD FRIENDS you have met along the way and will miss. LIFE IS CHANGE! But we often aren’t asked by life or our Creator if it is changes we want to make are we?

In hind-sight, I see my passion for writing which holds first place now to my love of painting has taken a drastic shift from casual and exploiting the “why’s” of life to a diligent passion to incorporate the insights and wisdom each experience shows me, as lessons from God.

It began about 14 years ago in Traverse City MI, actually on the shores of Crystal Lake, I was relaxing in the warm springtime sunshine at the water’s edge. The only one on the beach…perfect solitude and bliss...Then a young woman with a bandana on her head entered my space of sandy tranquility, my thoughts began surging: “What is she doing RIGHT here, not 5 feet away from me when there’s a whole beach?” “I yearn for solitude and quiet and the sounds of the surf, not talking with a complete stranger that is clad in unusual garb”. “ Why Lord? Why me, why today?

Beach front on Crystal Lake, Beulah MI

As I feared she introduced herself to me, and I am ashamed with my “seasoned memory now” I cannot recall her name today, but vividly recall in full the vision (picture) of how things were. As she began to tell me “her story” I became more intrigued. She started talking about what a miracle she is and how God has blessed her. At this juncture I had a deep faith, but it was private, I wasn’t used to talking about God with total strangers. She continued. She had been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor ( the reason for the bandana! Aha!) I often glean more from conversations with people then I really want to know. She explained in detail the miracle God had created using her as He healed the tumor and amazed her doctors! WOW!

During the conversation she taught me: “When people are extremely close to God, animals, wild ones come right up to them….they exude a quiet security and peace and love that the animals feel.” Yeah, right I am thinking with my skeptical mind, sure!

Then out of the blue, or should I say out of the water and shoreline, at least 10 ducks and ducklings waddled down the beach from every direction it seemed, and proceeded right to her, surrounding her on her blanket, close to her legs, her feet…trying to get as close as they could. She was not eating any food, or giving them anything….I watched in amazement. The strangest sense of peace overcame me as I watched it unfold, as if I was in a sacred space, calm, peaceful, serene. The ducks stayed while we conversed and soon the sun began to become lower to the horizon, I am not sure exactly how long we talked. She even suggested we pray together….I am thinking this is soooooo weird!!! But I complied with her request not knowing how to refuse after she had shared such an incredible story with me, then she took my hands in hers and prayed an awesome prayer of thanksgiving for her healing and for meeting me, a complete stranger, and gratitude for the visiting ducks.

It was time for her to leave,I watched as  she packed up her things and headed off toward downtown Beulah. I never saw her again. I sat still, in awe for a very long time and in fact enjoyed one of the most spectacular sunsets I had seen, and I have seen many, all different and all gloriously painted by God!

I truly believe that was a “fork in my road”, a twist in my path, not expected, not deserved, not requested and yet the beginning of a fabulous journey not as observer of  life a total spectator, but as a God loved and inspired participant in His plan, the journey of MY life! How incredible, how magnificent, how amazing You are Lord. Thank You.

I now am no longer afraid of what the future holds, nor do I regret my past,  I expect the unexpected, the unusual and the unplanned and til this day, God has not disappointed me!

The journey of my life is continuing, and I know NOT WHERE I AM GOING THIS TIME! But wherever it may be, I am sure God will teach me things I have not yet known.

I don’t think I have written about this topic previously, if I have…I think it’s important to think about it again. What did change my life, who I am and how I now see the world anyway?

Baptized and Born again in these waters

Years ago, when I lived in Northern Michigan shortly before I divorced and we had lost our little family restaurant, I found a part-time position to make much-needed extra money. It was only part-time and I drove about 25 miles each day of the week, doing what I needed to do. At that time of my life, I wanted to “save the world”, fight for every injustice, was controlling and not at all afraid to speak up for the “underdog”. I was extremely co-dependent and didn’t know it! Now through years of working on myself, reading 4 shelves of self-help books, attending numerous meetings to change who I was I can say, I am a different woman, from the inside out!

It began at the part-time job I held. My middle daughter Amy had just been baptized in the Platte River and I freaked! She had been baptized as a baby, why again? She was on fire as a ” new-born again Christian” I didn’t get it, it blew me away because I had been raised in a traditional church atmosphere and my girls were too. While at work, the computer system needed repairs and the man who came to do it belonged to the church Amy attended and he was completely on fire for the Lord...whew…overwhelming to say the least. While he was there, he did his best to quote scripture after scripture….I was never taught scriptures, it made me more and more uneasy. Then he began to really hammer on my bosses husband who was Jewish….oh my gosh…It was getting way out of control and the sweet Jewish man was kind and quiet but I could tell he was feeling, “enough”….and being the co-dependent I was, had NO way to shift the focus or conversation and especially NOT with a biblical counter quote. By the time I began my long ride home on winding Northern roads in the rain mind you, I was a mess. I cried and I cried. So frustrated that I had been raised a Catholic and yet knew so little in a situation like this. Not lost, but not found....yet!

Then in the middle of my hysterical tears….a miracle. A soft, nondescript voice began speaking to me….it seemed like for hours, but in reality was just fleeting moments. I couldn’t depict if it was either male or female and during the exchange I felt a tremendous sense of calm and peace and wanted the moments to continue on forever. The words spoken, I was told later by respected liturgical ministers, were directly from God. “The Big Guy” they called Him. His words to this day are forever imprinted on my heart and on my soul. ” I AM WHO I AM, BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING, BE WHO YOU ARE”!!!

Wow….my world begin changing at that moment in time. I began my journey to truly know, to become best friends with the Lord, my God. My viewpoints began to change, my skepticism began to vanish, I became more open to the faith of others and less judgmental of their views and beliefs. Wow a “rebirth” of my mind….that began the journey I travel today having the authentic and loving relationship with my Savior.

There are many more synchronizations that have occurred in my life since that day so long ago, I may blog about some in the future. Little miracles and “stop you in your tracks” revelations I had not been aware of before. My life began its transformation to how I see the world today. Who I am becoming and have become and how incredibly my life has been changed. One never knows how one little thing will bring awareness to another or to self. I am grateful for all the circumstances that have brought me to the fork in my road. Change is good, change brings awareness and blessings we never expect.

I hope by sharing this small part of what helped me to begin my journey will also help you. I now live to expect the unexpected, because God has His hand upon my life! And knowing Him more personally, not with all the structure and traditions I had learned has beautified some of those and taught me new ones as well. Jeremiah 29:11 began my travels and still is my favorite scripture of confidence, faith, hope and love….”I have a plan for you says the Lord, not to harm you, but to give you hope and a future”. I can truly say, Jesus is my best friend, my confident, my role model, my Father and the love of my life! He’s walked with me or carried me each step of my way on my journey. May you also find Him who can change your life, help you become who you are meant to be by His divine plan and change the vision you have of your world….one day at a time, moment to moment.  EcxOkht8w7c  (Click on this link)

Blessings to all of you who follow my quirky thoughts and musings….it’s what God has inspired me to do for Him and for you! Blessings today and always.

Here is a painting of mine I did awhile ago when I lived in Traverse City MI….It expressed my sentiments: One can own and possess everything material in this world, but when the time comes to let go and pass on…“YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU”!

YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU

So share your gifts, your talents, give your STUFF to people that need it and live simply. It will bring you much joy and peace. I know….that’s how I live now trusting in the Lord for everything.

How many times in a funeral procession have you seen a funeral hearse towing a “U-Haul”, get the point?????

Twofish13

Duke Ellington PianistA year or so ago, I had a first class seat on “cloud 9″….My emotions were flowing and ebbing, which can be the norm for me in a creative state and I engaged in all the romance, day dreaming, and appreciation I could handle. My “boat was afloat”, so to speak, traveling down canals I had never navigated before, I now know, I should have taken that course in directional boating….Might have saved me tons of struggling to determine “what is the right thing to do or say“, “which channel do I navigate in” and “how do I tread water when it feels if my heart and soul are sinking“?

I actually assumed perhaps, I was living my “Bliss”….and I felt I truly was. My creative spirit was introduced to a total stranger, who in turn introduced me to the beauty of the sound of an orchestra. Yes, I have heard an orchestra before, in movies, at plays, on CD’s….but I didn’t know the difference between hearing and listening….now I know. And the difference is huge. If you have a minute, I would love to explain my “eclectic” take ….ready?Alto Flute

Each instrument, percussion, horns, keyboard or wind ….have their own role to play in a given arrangement….as we each do. Each melodious instrument has it’s own distinct sound, and with the help of direction…(rules, knowledge and goals), those sounds are played to perfection, providing the one playing “practices ….practice makes perfect“. When you combine each of those different “noises” with one another, it produces a symphony of noises, ergo a concert, musical composition, a backdrop to enhance other performers talents, like dancers or magicians or story tellers…..

Most of us focus our ears on lyrics if there are any….or the total sound of all the instruments in unison….we hear the complete rendition, the entire performance collectively….

Last month, I began, with the help of that friend to depict the individual sounds of each instrument….for example, a flute defines, a piano leads, percussion brings attention to the piece, a harp or violin bring the breeze, the softness, the delicacy of sound as if the composition is caressed with a feather. Each role is so much like the roles within our lives.

For example we have the violin people….that gently dust our souls; the percussionists that scream…”Hey, hear me! Pay attention to me!….The Flutist folks, accent the minute details they direct the focus of the melody….accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, they are the adjectives that add the flourish. Of course there are also those in the Brass section, those who blast out their ideas, straightforwardly, demanding to be heard in a crowd, and lastly the pianist, the keyboarders, no not skateboarders, we’re talking music here people, are the leaders, they give the balance to all the other combinations…they flow, ebb and sway to the moments of life’s rhythems just as a pianist dances with the ivories!sax player

I never before saw people as instruments, although, the hymn “Let There Be Peace On Earth”.…is not only referred to as the prayer of St Francis, a divine lover and patron saint of animals, but as a combination of what this world should look like, if all people were in sync, if all the “instruments” were finely tuned and following the scales in life and practiced their talents on a daily basis Amazing, really, I am sure most musicians would be able to understand this analogy perfectly and even include the other instruments I am not so familiar with. Hmmmmm I wonder if I would be an oboe or a piccolo…or perhaps a trumpet? Interesting.

It makes perfect sense, a conductor ( God) perfectly directs the orchestra(people) and when they play in synchronization, the melody is amazing…. The efforts of each combine for the excellence of all…..sweet, huh?

So the next time you are hearing music, think about this analogy and open your ears to learn to “listen”.…and amazingly so, you’ll begin to hear the melody in everyday life, the birds singing in the early morning (Get up, get going), the music of the passing traffic zipping down the highway, the music of the waves lapping the shore’s edge in tune with the wind and currents and perhaps you also will begin to feel and see the harmony of life about us, in everyone, in everything….the musical composition of the world orchestrated by a fabulous Maestro….and soon your perspective will begin to change, you’ll begin to feel the joy in the smallest things, you’ll be able to feel the peace that only a symphony of sound can bring into your life.

It’s now time for me, to return to my music….no, it’s not really mine, my ears are just borrowing it for a time, it’s my way to begin anew after wiping my slate clean. What are your methods, will you share them here? Will you express your thoughts, your concerns, your dreams and fantasies? Become your own conductor of your “one man band” and perhaps one day, that band will be united with others and before you can blink an eye, you will be playing the melodies of the worlds finest orchestra…I sure would like to be one of the first to have front row seats at the recital of your new life, your new beginning….For just a moment in time, my favorite quote rang so true: “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”.…for these actualization’s and symbolic comparisons, thank you Maestro, you have been a fabulous teacher!

“FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS”….

WHAT MAY HE BE THINKING?

....SEE IT IN HIS EYES?

Having my coffee this morning, very early I might add, and the thoughts came to me, “I wonder what it is like…..”; to be confined to a hospital bed, or be a Vet who is recouping in the VA hospital, or perhaps in a nursing home, hmmmm? Or what it is like for a four-legged animal to actually go visit these folks, riding on elevators, wearing sneakers and duded up for the occasion?

My good friend Kathy has had a dream her whole life to own and operate a stable for SPECIAL NEEDS kids….She and the “Horse whisperers” agree that horses are healing, they are protective, they sense the energy from humans.…and she’s now demonstrating how that is with her beginning fledgling, Star, her miniature horse. Star may be tiny, but her spirit is mighty. She loves to bring out that smile in someone who is not able to get out and about and she especially loves the “lil people” almost her height from local pre-schools. Many of them have not ever been up close and personal with a horse, she gives them the opportunity to meet her, pet her and hug her….and the best, Kathy captures the expressions and experiences with a photo as a memento of the moment in time….a keepsake….perhaps the beginning of a child’s experience that even if  God’s creatures don’t talk with words, they can communicate with people in soft, sweet sometimes silly ways…..

I am grateful I know Kathy and Star and can witness first hand the birth and growth of her dream. It’s only by God’s grace that Star’s gifts to the world somehow help to make ends meet, well sort of, in this tough economic time….when you do what you love and have faith in God, “He will take you places you’ve only dreamed of!” – Joel Olsteen.

Check out Stars web site: http://www.starandfriends.com/Special_Needs_Kids.html and meet them for yourself….your day will be brighter, your smiles bigger and once again you can be a kid and experience something unexpected in your life perhaps.Don’t forget to follow Stars posts on word press: A Lil Horsein’ Around….I bet she can’t wait to become the star in your life and recant her experiences….

I wonder now…..what it might be like to be a squirrel??? Have you ever wondered what it’s like?….

You can BLOOM.....anywhereZ!

You can BLOOM.....anywhereZ!

We all soon will have the opportunity to vote for a new president or re-elect the present one. Choices we all have to either help make our country different or to enhance the qualities that make America, America.

I hope you all will take this opportunity seriously, though I know most of the political commercials to come may make all of us crazy, empty promises, mud-slinging, satire, lack of solutions to the issues we have been experiencing for over 3 years now…..but if we don’t speak out with our votes our preferences in the leaders of our counties, cities, villages and nation…..who will. It is our right…..it is our responsibility….it should be an honor to play a huge role in the “changes” we must have to continue to claim the name, The United States of America.

Are we united or not? It’s a time to turn back the hands of time and reclaim the values and morals this country was founded upon….in GOD WE TRUST!  This reprint of a previous article may just help to motivate us to do what we can, where we are….read and don’t just enjoy but ACT

use your voices and right to VOTE and see if we each can truly make a difference. With the help of God, I believe we can!

This morning I stopped in my local favorite convenience store in Safety Harbor, First Choice Food & Deli on Phillippe Pkwy, very near the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, and talked with the owner Eddie ….during our short conversation, he expressed the concern he and I am sure other small business owners are experiencing…..EXTREMELY SLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWW SALES!!!! Which made me think, what can I do? How can I help to keep these folks afloat within my quaint, friendly community during this seige of desperate economic times?

I then remembered the outpour of $1.00 donations during the 9/11 tragedy from all over the country, $1.00 at a time. Where those accumulated dollars actually went, still is a mystery….and so is the actual amount of money received, was it 75 million or 75 billion? It seems there is no definite answer out there. The government nor the Red Cross seems to have any clue to actual figures and facts the last time I researched this question: WHERE DID THE MONEY CONTRIBUTED GO????????

In pondering, the brain-surge came to me, why can’t we, each, within our own communities do one of two things: 1) Buy our products locally, whatever we need from hardware, to cleaning, to repairs, to food, to restaurants, to gas? 2) Why don’t each of us living within the community donate $1.00 to each business that is operating within the community, NOT the Wal-Mart’s and Targets, but the “mom and pop” family run businesses that rely on the income from it’s customers…..one little dollar multiplied by thousands of people within an area could mean the difference between existence and shops that close!

The state we are in cannot be blamed solely on our government, all though most of the greed and corruption can be found there, within those who do not serve us, are not good stewards of our trust and money but their sole game plan, to have millions, perhaps billions for themselves. We as individuals must shoulder some of the responsibility for being so absorbed within lives we neglected to be “ever watchful”….we assumed all was well in “paradise”….we have shut our eyes and buried our heads in the sand and done nothing for the most part as aliens snuck into our land on all borders, claiming money and assistance our own native-born folks couldn’t receive, drug lords peddling wares to “hook” folks into squandering money and committing crimes to maintain a habit, budgeting of our tax dollars used for crazy and expensive things, gas prices sky rocketing and we still filled up at the pump while the oil giants reap huge profits, jobs sent abroad for companies to pay much lower wages, huge manufacturers paying out money for benefits and ungodly hourly wages climbing higher and higher each year because of the unions persistence, service to customers declining because of the focus on the “bottom line“….bean counters running the economy not US, not the people….striving for and wanting, more and more and more….At who’s expense?

Now we are all within the confines of the belly of a sinking ship….the USS America…..Do we put on our life jackets and swim elsewhere? Or do we man our life boats with ideas of “preservation” and “elimination of budget waste and printing of more “green backs”?

Crime will be on a huge upswing if we EACH don’t do our part….something in the way to use our brains, our courage and our ideas collectively to turn the tide….

Somewhere....out there....

Somewhere....out there....

First, pray each and every morning and evening to God for His help for each of us and for the return of Him as primary within our country, only He can use His power to turn things around, quickly.

Secondly, next year, I for one am going to tout eliminating each and every representative and senator in office now...REPLACING THEM WITH ORDINARY FOLKS WE’VE NOT HEARD OF, WHO HAVE A LOT OF COMMON SENSE,A   COMMUNICATIVE ABILITY AND A CHRISTIAN HEART who know our economy depends on our PEOPLE, by voting them out of office and voting new blood in!!!!

Third, I will be making my purchases locally….and when I do….ask each business owner to start an $1.00 jar…..for all the $1.00 donations that will be coming in from their patrons to keep their business open and their families surviving. Their part in the process, giving us good deals for our dollars when we do buy….no more fattening the calf….fair is fair.

Fourth, in areas that have seasonable weather, grow victory gardens and begin to
BARTER WITH OUR NEIGHBORS
…..What skill do you have I could trade with you for something YOU need?
BECOME CREATIVE IN OUR CLOTHING….DESIGN AND UPGRADE THE CLOTHES WE ALREADY HAVE, ADD PIZZAZ TO THEM…RECYCLE THEM…

Fifth, contribute one family size can or package of food to a local soup kitchen.

Sixth, each time I buy groceries, add a duplicate product or two for the local food pantries.

Seventh, encourage an insurance agent, a bank, a local gas station, a car dealer ship, a lawyer, to work in ‘KAHOOTS’ with one another to provide transportation for the many aging citizens who need to get to stores, doctor appointments and to centers for meals and fun. And the senior’s contributions : reading to those who cannot see anymore, spending time with young children, playing, laughing, teaching them about history….their time spent could offset the costs of their needed transportation especially if a school or church takes on this kind of project.

Only a half a block west of Starbuck's!

Only a half a block west of Starbuck's!

Continue to blog…..all my ideas and yours and solutions we yet have NOT thought of….it’s a time to care about PEOPLE, PEOPLE!!!!!And since it is so blatant the government has NO CLUE and cannot manage it’self….we need to take time for ACTION!

For our children and their children or our culture thousands have built will self destruct and the USS AMERICA will succumb to the evil forces that surround us in the unseen world.

Will you? Can I count on you?  take time….just sit….chat with God…pray…think, use your mind in ways that add a positive outcome for our country? We have nothing to lose, and so much to be gained….

I have room in my “lifeboat” for like-minded folks, ask yourself….Am I one of them, or am I going to continue to add to the problems we all are experiencing? Think about it…..then do what you can, where you are, BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED and God will provide the rest!

A new day....a new beginning!

WOW….It’s the New Year, a New Beginning with so many golden moments of joy and opportunity ahead!

Keyboard ready to dance! So much to be grateful for. The good news that a dear friend of mine is cancer free, the opportunity for my granddaughter at age 13 is now part of her church youth band as a pianist on a keyboard and also creatively writing with the desire to be an author one day….wonder where she got her talents? I am sure it’s a “GOD THING” as I like to think of most everything now days. One of my grandsons is building wooden animals with power tools and his Dad’s guidance, another granddaughter an artist as well, and her work is so utterly detailed and amazing…another granddaughter hopes to race in car races for kids soon with her Dad as a mentor, her sister a coach of cheerleading workshops and yet another grandson who is working on taking apart a broken electric wine cooler and fixing it and re-assembling it and he’s only 9!He has a mind for details and science and what makes things work….and he also is a lover of nature and critters be it snakes, cats, dogs or toads….He is too amazing!

All God's critters are beeuutiful in their own way!

My girls have used their talents and gifts as “Moms” to inspire and encourage the talents within their off spring and I am proud to also play a role in their artistic and talented development….I am glad I was the one to always give art supplies and books and CDs as gifts throughout their early lives. I never tire of the “shows” they put on for me or the world of make believe they let me explore with them…Can you tell how much I love my grand children and how proud I am of each one of them for their individuality and creativity and curiosity?

As for me….well I am going to try my hand again at submitting greeting card ideas to Blue Mt Arts and continue blogging my economic and political thoughts and random thoughts of love in this world and ” paying it forward”. There may be even an opportunity for me to help my dear friend with writing his autobiography….what a legacy he is leaving to this world with his experiences and with his music. I already have had the opportunity to help my girlfriend set up a wordpress blog to enhance her life’s dream of being instrumental in bringing  joy, purposefulness and smiles to senior citizens in nursing homes and children in pre-schools with her mini horse, Star. By the way, Star wears bling covered sneakers and likes to ride in elevators….I look forward to her writings of their adventures and of her living  HER dream!

I look forward to sharing my dream for the year as it unfolds, I hope you will too. It seems at this juncture of my journey there are soooooo many options, unrequited dreams to be lived, so many things I would love to do and so few hours to do them all. I guess a first step might be to prioritize those dreams and begin at the beginning. If you have ideas of what you are going to aim for, pass them on with a comment or two, after all your comments and feedback’s actually fuel my blogs and the ideas I glean from you are often priceless.

What are the dreams of my heart, my talents, my gifts? With the New Year there are really so many golden moments ahead… yet to be lived, loved and treasured.
